Reach for the stars (white pen challenge)

Hi friends,

Thanks so much for stopping by! I'm excited to share today's layout with you for our white pen challenge at Practical Scrappers.

I think it's so hard to find a good white pen - every company has different results. My white pen stash consists of Close To My Heart, American Crafts and Sakura, but for my all-time fave? Definitely the Signo Uniball. It always has a smooth finish and totally opaque cover - even after going over the same area multiple times. For my money, it can't be beat.

Cardstock: Close To My Heart, Bazzil // Patterned Paper & Star Sticker: Close To My Heart // Title Stickers: American Crafts vinyl Thickers (Poolside) // Ribbon & Brad - Stash

For this layout, I doodled some galaxy stars, faux stitching and little circles with my fave pen. I really like how it combines minimalistic (for me) design with funky hand drawn elements. Kind of fun - what do you think? What's your favorite project for your white pen?

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to visit me more this week for chances to win with our Lucky Girl Blog Party! *winkwink*

Everything's better with lace {cardstock, that is!}

Have you visited Practical Scrappers yet this week? Let me tell you - if you haven't, you'll want to be making a special trip. We've got such a fun challenge this week! We're all about the lace cardstock, and there's so many great ideas it's hard to know which one to lift first. :D

Patterned Paper: My Mind's Eye; Little Yellow Bicycle // Lace Cardstock: KI Memories (?) // Alpha: Pink Paislee Glittered Expressions // White Pen: Signa // Bling: Prima // Cardstock: Close To My Heart

For my layout this week, I layered my lace cardstock onto a Jenni Bowlin chipboard butterfly using a liquid adhesive pen. I added some fab flourishes from Prima, and lovely lettering to finish it off.

Here's a little bonus hint when using liquid adhesive pens (mine is from Zig, but Close To My Heart and I think Tombow make similar kinds...)
If you make a little bit of a mess with the liquid adhesive - wait until it dries, then gently rub away the goo with a white eraser.)

Thanks for visiting!

You have me in {faux} stitches!

It's time for a stitch challenge at Practical Scrappers this week!

I'm what you'd call a great seamstress, so this challenge worried me - until I realized that I could pull of a mean faux stitch! I used my Bazzill In Stitches swirl template and poked holes in my layout in a fun and fanciful design, then using a fine tipped marker, created faux stitches by tracing the poked holes. The result: It looks like I spent forever either lugging around a huge sewing machine (which truthfully, I can't remember how to thread properly) or hand-stitching the design when in reality it took only a few minutes. Gotta love that.Cardstock: Bazzil // Patterned Paper: My Mind's Eye // Heart Die Cut: Basic Grey // Stickers: Oriental Trading Co. // Ribbon: American Crafts // Paperclip & scallop punch: Stampin' Up

Be sure to visit the Practical Scrappers blog for more stitching inspiration - the handiwork by those talented group of ladies is amazing!

I {love} you

It's great when I have some unexpected free time to get my craft on. After a whirlwind weekend of traveling back and forth and back and forth across the state of Colorado {literally} over the weekend, it was so nice to come home and dive into my scrapbooking supplies for my take on the September guest DT challenge at Sketchy Thursdays. (P.S. The prize for the incredible double-page sketch this week is a gift certificate to Lucky Girl Crafts - go play!!!)

Papers: Basic Grey, My Mind's Eye (green distressed circle paper), stash (black distressed paper)
Embellies: Anna Griffin - glittered letter chipboard; Basic Grey - rub-ons, chipboard "you" letters; Petaloo - green flower; Jenni Bowlin - white button, butterfly; American Crafts -gel pen, pearl brad; Zva Creative - bling flourish; Close To My Heart: ink; pink glitter brad; stash - flowers, bling brad
I came across some way-old patterned paper (Basic Grey for the large pink & green patterned paper and some random distressed black patterned paper) and a Basic Grey Sugar Rush card kit for my primary pieces. The card kit contributed the green polkadot paper, the pink scalloped paper (both of which were card bases), the cardstock "you" and the rub ons. Gotta love when you find new uses for supplies totally meant for something else. I added a fun assortment of bright flowers and some bling swirls and I'm jazzed with how it came out! Cross your fingers - maybe I'll be one of the ones to vote on later this week...
In other totally random, awesome news, I also got a great e-mail from the super sweet Trisha today at Sketch Inspiration. She was hosting an Inspire{me} contest not so long ago, and asked for original layouts not based on any other sketch to inspire a new sketch for her challenge site. Guess what! I won! I am so honored to be one of the three lucky girls she's chosen. Woohoo!
Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a blessed week.

Celebrate Life - Frosted Designs Challenge

Our Frosted Designs challenge this week is hosted by one of my favorite blogging buddies, Kim! I hope you'll join us this week for the awesome challenge and a chance to celebrate life!
My layout this weeks celebrates the miracle of life:

When I was going through pictures to choose for my layout this week, I came across this one of Sophia when she was just newly born. You see, after Andrew (who was born at the end of August) I used to joke with my husband that I wouldn't have another August baby because it was just too miserable. My due date with Sophia was August 14 - her daddy's birthday. Sure enough, bright and early the morning of July 31, I had some back pain that ended up being early stage labor. Just four short hours later and a very speedy delivery (we came close to having her in the parking lot!), my sweet, beautiful, teeny tiny 5 lb., 11 oz. Sophia was brought into the world.... blue and not breathing. Our pediatrician, whose office was in the next wing, was called into our delivery room STAT. Thankfully, the nurses were able to revive her by the time the doctor arrived, but she was still in distress. She spent three days in neonatal intensive care, and I didn't even hold her for fear of making things worse until she was released. It was truly one of the most terrifying times of my life. Seeing my newborn baby girl under an oxygen hood with tubes sticking out of everywhere was life altering - and we got off easy! After she was released, she thrived. Praise God!
Life truly is a miracle. Take a moment to be thankful for yours and hug all those you love!

Thank You and our winner!

Hi Friends!

Thanks to all of you who played along and supported our August Blog Party for Old School Cool! I hope that you were inspired to create something and to buy one of our awesome kits! *winkwinkwink*

Here's one of the cards that I made with the Old School Cool kit - super appropriate for my gratitude-filled day. Don't you just love those bright colors & fun patterns in the Echo Park Papers and stickers from this kit?!

Without further ado, I'd like to announce the winner of the Lucky Girl scrappy RAK. I assigned each comment a number and used Random.org to pull the winner.

Congratulations, Kelly!

What a cute card! Love the ribbon! Well, my favorite embellies are still the flowers because they are so varied and such nice colors!

Please send me your mailing info to: jasafras98@yahoo.com by Sunday, August 15 to claim your prize.

Thanks to you all for your warm wishes and sweet comments about my grandfather. He is doing better - much better than anyone anticipated. Last weekend we expected him to be with us for only a few more days, but by the time my son, brother and I got to see him on Tuesday his condition was much improved and he was still himself enough to joke around with us and tell us stories as we went through old family pictures. As of yesterday, his hospice nurses expected him to last several more months. I'm so grateful that we were able to spend the day with him, because really, you just never know. My son was able to learn some family history and all about my grandfather's time in the Air Force, which he thought was pretty cool. If all goes well, he'll still be well enough for Sophia and my husband to visit with him again when we go home for a planned trip on the 14th.

No. 1 Lizard Hunter Agency - Celebrating #1 @ Practical Scrappers!

Gotta love the number one - especially this week since we're celebrating our first anniversary over at Practical Scrappers!

I was soooo excited to have been invited on their first-ever design team last August, and excited when I was invited to be a senior DT member a few months ago. Practical Scrappers is one of the first sites I visit each day because the inspiration there is incredible! Not to mention all of the challenges - weekly product challenges, new sketch challenges every Friday, plus their monthly bonus challenge. It's always so much fun to see what everyone creates and what prizes are to be had!!!

Patterned Papers: Close To My Heart (multi-colored plaid & red distressed), stash (blue plaid) // Embellies: Making Memories (star brads & ribbon), Jenni Bowlin (journaling tag) // Title Stickers: American Crafts foil chipboard Thickers

In honor of the number 1, my layout this week is all about the #1 lizard hunter in our house - my son-shine Andrew. Don't you just love the gear - those bright red gloves and neon green "gps" watch?! So funny! Hard to believe that sweet little boy is already a big stinkin' (but thankfully not literally - that boy loves Axe bodywash!) pre-teen. Yikes!

Thanks so much for visiting me today. I hope you enjoy the rest of the week-long celebration and daily prizes at Practical Scrappers! See you there!

Did you know?

Today marks the start of the one year anniversary celebrations at Practical Scrappers! Join us this week for daily challenges and tons of prizes!

Day 2 of the Party!

Thanks for joining us again today for our Old School Cool Blog Party! Kim & I have some great projects to share from our latest kit, plus three chances to win!!!
If you're joining us for the Blog Party, you have probably came from Kim's blog or the store blog. If not, be sure to check them both out for more projects & chances to win!

Patterned Paper, Journaling Sticker & Velvet Brad: Sassafras Lass // Glittered Chipboard Stickers: Pink Paislee // Other: Natural & Gold Bakers Twine // Cardstock for Card Base: Stampin' Up (not included in the kit)

Today I created a birthday card with my Sassafras scraps. I had an extra kraft card base in my stash from another project, and decided it would be perfect to help enhance the beautiful colors & patterns from the Indie Girl papers. I also created the fun flower using my natural & gold bakers twine, by wrapping the twine several in several loops around the back base of the fuzzy velvet brad. I secured the twine with a touch of hot glue before adding the brad to my project.

The first kit I'm featuring with the latest (and greatest!) Lucky Girl Crafts kit - Old School Cool - is this darling layout about my baby girl. Soph turned 7 yesterday, but no matter how old she gets, she'll always be my baby.

"I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be."
- Robert Munch, Love You Forever

Patterned Paper, Scallop Accent, Glazed Brad: Sassafras Lass //Patterned Paper for Butterfly: Echo Park Paper // Cardstock: American Crafts // Stickers: Pink Paislee & Echo Park Paper // Filmstrip Ribbon: Tim Holtz // Ink: Close to My Heart

Can I just share how much I love the new Indie Girl papers from Sassafras Lass that are in this kit?! Seriously - I really really love them! Not only are the patterns super cute, but the little die cut edges are so awesome - a neat little extra - that I've totally stretched and used on four of my twelve projects that I created with this kit!
