Lucky Girl Party Peek and a take off a Sketchy Thursdays challenge

I'm so excited that Lucky Girl Crafts will soon be sponsoring one of my all-time favorite challenge sites, Sketchy Thursdays, in near future. Hurrah! Hurray! A very great day!

This week's challenge was for a 3 or more photo layout. Fab!!! Finally! I've been stuck in a one-picture rut lately, not that I mind or anything, but it's nice to break out of the norm.

Here's the Sketchy Thursdays inspiration sketch:

Here's my take on it:

I'll admit, I took some liberties with the over-all design, but I still kept several patterned papers, three pics and the multi-word title. Totally wild and wacky and fun - this captures the spirit of those silly little boys just perfectly.

And can I just say, the new Lucky Girl Crafts kit - Summer Vacation - really rocks?! ;D

This layout uses several pieces of the latest Lucky Girl kit:
Papers by Pink Paislee and Cosmo Cricket // Cardstock by American Crafts // Stickers by Cosmo Cricket // Alphas by Pink Paislee and Cosmo Cricket

Don't forget to join us tomorrow, starting at the Lucky Girl Crafts blog for the start of our Summer Vacation Blog Party - with awesome inspiration and chances to win some mystery scrappy goodies!!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Border Punch & Deco Scissor Day

Hi Friends! It's that time again! I'm glad you were able to stop by and check out my latest Practical Scrapper's challenge layout. This week, we were challenged to use border punches and decorative scissors. Here's my creation using a PageMaps sketch:

I used a Fiskars Threading Water border punch to compliment the die cut scalloped edge of My Mind's Eye paper, and I reversed the direction of scallop scissors to create a wave design on the manilla tag.

Be sure to check out all the other designs this week at Practical Scrappers... remember, it's your last day to enter for the June sketch challenge for a chance to win an exclusive Lucky Girl kit! Check out the details here.

And finally, don't forget to visit me again tomorrow for the start of our monthly
Lucky Girl Blog Party

Pure Glee!

It's color challenge week at Frosted Designs!

This week, we were challenged to create a project featuring orange, green, teal and yellow as the primary colors. Digging through my stash, I found these little wallet pics of my beautiful niece that I thought would be perfect for the challenge. The only thing was, I couldn't think of a title for the page. I went through my countless alpha stickers and came across these Lime Rickey alphabet stickers from Basic Grey, which are similar to the font for the television show Glee - of which I am unabashedly a huge fan of. It was destined for my layout!

On a totally off-topic side note - I completely urge you to watch Glee. It's seriously the best hour of TV - hands down. Sure, it's kind of campy and cheesy. Yes, it makes me very glad that I'm not in high school any more. But the characters are so real, the story line - over all - is well thought out and portrayed, and the music is friggin' IN*CRED*IBLE! Everything from Journey, Madonna, Rick Springfield, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, KISS, Frank Sinatra, and a handful of show tunes, featuring several Broadway-trained actors. Hello. Call it awesome - because that's what it is! There has not been a single episode that we haven't immediately purchased all the songs on iTunes and immediately fell in love. Even my kiddos know all the Glee songs.

My hubby and I started watching it through on-demand TV during the winter hiatus about a week before the show started back up in February. We ended up watching those episodes twice. We bought the Season 1 Part 1 DVDs as soon as they were released and have watched them several times. We recorded the spring episodes (part 2 of Season 1) and have not deleted them, because there are just days when we need our Glee fix. I've now lent my Season 1 Part 1 DVDs out to 5 of my friends from many different backgrounds - with requests from 3 more - and everybody has loved it.

Go - watch it - and share some Glee love!

Thanks for stopping by!

Flower Child (for the boys!)

Join us this week for a full-bloom flower challenge at Practical Scrappers!

If you've visited me here for very long, you might have guessed that I have a slight *cough*insane*cough* flower obsession. I collect them in many sizes, shapes and materials - in all colors of the rainbow. For this week's challenge, I stole a little inspiration from my friend Gretchen - mom of three boys - who always uses her flowers in such a wonderfully masculine way!

For this layout of Andrew, which I swore to him I would only use boyish flowers on - no glitter or sparkly things! - I added more earth-toned flowers to compliment the striped paper. With dark, matte brads and buttons, I was able to steer clear away from FrouFrouVille - thus making both mom and boy-child happy. Not to mention being able to scrap the best candid shots I've ever been able to get of my son... he's one cute kid... just sayin'.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Glitter-azi

Tis' the season for glitter! This week, Practical Scrappers is hosting a Loose Glitter & Flock challenge! Finally, a chance to use my tin of sparkles! I have tons of different glitters - some fun, chunky ones that I got in a bargain bin at JoAnn's, and several colors of Martha Stewart glitter sitting in a tin on my desk that have been collecting dust for a while now. It seems like every time I break out the glitter, the pitter-patter of little feet follow. Loose glitter and little feet (and the body they carry) are usually a recipe for disaster, so the loose glitter just sits there, looking pretty. Even with the inevitable mess that comes with it (at least in my house!), it's fun to break out of your norm once in a while.

For my birthday last week, my aunt sent me a bunch of old family photos, and I figured what better way to use something glitzy was to pair it with something glamorous - a picture of my grandparents shortly after they were married in the 1950s.

My grandmother's favorite color was blue, so I used several shades of Martha Stewart blue glitter for my layout.

The large letters are double-sided stickers from Stampin' Up. I began by peeling off the top layer and sprinkling my glitter on each letter. After tapping off the excess, I covered each letter with Liquid Glass (a liquid epoxy, essentially) from Close To My Heart. After each letter dried - which, I found, took FOREVER even though I didn't use a super-heavy layer - I peeled the letter from the backing to use on my layout.

I created some hand-made paper roses from a tutorial I found on my blogging buddy Kim's new challenge site - Sketches in Thyme - and sprayed each rose with 3M spray adhesive before sprinkling on both fine and chunky glitter. (PS - The paper roses were so easy that my 6-year-old daughter created a set of her very own that turned out absolutely FAB!)

Here's the finished product:

Cardstock: Bazzill
Patterned Paper: Sassafras Lass, stash (for the roses)
Bling: Glitter by Martha Stewarts; Flourish by ColorBok
Stickers: Stampin' Up, Cosmo Cricket
Cricut Cartridge: Home Accents
Liquid Glass: Close To My Heart
Embellishment: Making Memories

Thanks for stopping by!

All that glitters...

Our challenge this week at Frosted Designs is to use glitter on our projects. I love getting a chance to incorporate blingy accents, and this layout is no different!

I used Crystal Stickles to trace a printed border on a My Mind's Eye transparency (for the middle pic); used a glitter flower from Heidi Swapp, and glittered chipboard letters from Anna Griffin. The rest of the products were from a bunch of scraps I had lying around.

Be sure to enter your glitter project over a Frosted Designs for a chance to win an incredible prize pack, including a new Cricut cartridge! The more you play, the more chances you have to WIN!!!

Eyecatching Eyelets

It's time to pull out your eyelet collection! Kick it old school and use a traditional eyelet setter or you use my hubby's personal favorite scrapbook invention - the Cropodile - and get your groove on! Our challenge this week at Practical Scrappers is all about the eyelet!

Eyelets can be fun or functional - for this layout, I did a little of both. My eyelets attach the clear acrylic elements to my layout (the heart for the center of the daisy flower, and to attach the letters Y-O-U, even if you can't see either one too well... click on the picture to enlarge and for a better view!)
I've also used an eyelet to attach the fabric tag to the picture.
This layout uses papers from Pink Paislee, My Mind's Eye, Studio Callico, and Bazzill; flowers from Prima; vintage-inspired element from Glitz Designs; chipboard from Cosmo Cricket; clear acrylic elements from Heidi Swapp & Close To My Heart; and glitzy spritz from Smooch Spritz. The tulle & eylets are from my stash, but the pin is Jenni Bowlin and the striped ribbon is from American Crafts.
Be sure to check out the other creative ways our amazing DT has used eyelets this week by clicking HERE.
Thanks so much for stopping by!!!
